Unplugged my television today.
It can be hard to wash away those images.
Images of the 11:00 news in my head-
why watch people, who are already dead?
I say a prayer for those poor people instead.
What is the use of watching things die from a distance?
Sitting by a pond and its trance-like scenery;
a liquid gem, surrounded by lush greenery.
Tall purple Irises flirt with Tiger lilies in the soft breeze,
and embrace the Solomon seals, in a gentle, coaxing tease.
A sapphire dragonfly lands onto a waiting lilypad;
this treasure of jewelled wings, makes me so glad.
I see the Yin-Yang in everything around me-
a small, dark dot in the brightness of Yang,
and a tiny circle of light, in the darkness of Yin.
I know that life isn't all black and white,
but the Yin-Yang has a secret up its sleeve.
Spin the tints of black and white, fast enough,
and within the blur, many colours will emerge.
Sunlight dapples on the cool, consensual surface.
Throw a stone into the pond,
watching the concentric circles
fuse with those of the startled bullfrog-
creating a spreading figure 8,
that ripples into infinite meanderings.
The spirit of Basho laughs beside me,
as he continues writing eternal verses,
easily amused by this natural imagery.
How can I not believe in Divine intervention?
How can I not believe in Divine synchronicity?
In this surrounding, beautiful perplexity,
my mind is already being cleansed.
Cleansed by the silent waves of the water.
The tips of young bullrushes, reach up
towards the exotic, safari animals,
galloping through the blue sky, as clouds.
I can see my soul connected to everything here-
watching the pond's mesmerizing scenery;
a liquid gem, nestled in this lush greenery.
