In All This Time

When we are brought before God all together as one
Every nation, every creature big and small
And he asks as we stand before him
"In all this time, for me what exactly have you done?"

Lord, we have accomplished in all this time
Beautiful structures of wood and stone
Structures built in your image, several for every village
That really had no reason nor rhyme.

We have only now come to see, quite regretfully
That they have only separated good people
While they claimed to be of your goodness and love
While they claimed to ward off every kind of evil.

While we prayed to Jesus, Mary, and every known saint
Without doubt we lost sight of the big picture
While we turned away those not of our congregation
We willingly left out your holy message in scripture.

While we fooled ourselves Lord, into believing untruths
that have surely without question led us astray
For we have edited or twisted your message
And thought it okay, while we kneeled down to pray.

Forgive us dear Lord, although we have sinned
And have done as we wished with our time
We were counting on you forgetting these acts
We believe you to be ever that kind.
