Ode to Poetry Critics (Co-written with James Fraser)

Wipe that silly grin from your face, boy
I am a woman, but certainly not a wimp
Watch me roll with the punches, tough guy
It'll take more than your words my style to crimp

Hey, babe, your style really sucks
Call that art, I have seen kids write better
Have some heart, instill it in your writes
Feel the moment, feel those letters

My feelings are there, you just may not relate
If you can't grasp my intent, too bad for you
I write from my heart, not from a man's head
I know what I'm saying, you just haven't a clue

Oh, i see you have posted another piece
Let me read and determine my thoughts
Excellent shape and so true to form
This definitely has plusses, you must be man taught

Hold on, joker, no man has influenced me
Dickinson and Teasdale are among the finest
Your thoughts on my work I'll disregard
Your views on poetry reveal your blindness

The last write you wrote, has invited my see
It has clearly shown, your writing to be
Scope, shape and the form you have written
I have scrolled to your past, and I am sorrowful smitten

No more condescending from ye on the throne?
What was it that made you feel superior?
And, furthermore, what gave you the right
To make any poet feel inferior?

You and James put together a great descriptive rhyming work here. I'm going to choose this one as a personal favorite.

Well put you two:) On that note I would add what qualifies a poet to judge and rank other poets in the member contests? I could never bring myself to distinguish and rank other people's work. Obviously if it's in a lighthearted spirit than we're all just having fun. But then I've noticed lately, so did you for that matter, some people on this site takes things a bit seriously....anyway I'm glad you're still talking to me. I was worried I freaked you out a bit with my uncensored self. Take care.

Wow, Carolyn.im sure this "boy" will feel like a fool when he 'grows up'.its typical for his kind, the kind you are talking about in your poem to be judgemental of things they can't understand yet.who knows if he will.these close-minded people who have never felt on a deeper level. great poem, it's a wonderful one. -Always&Forever Lynette

Dear Carolyn and James, Thank you for writing this excellent poem to, erh, what's the name? The one who hides behind the mask???I forget!! The one who doesn't even know who a poet is! Real poets do not write to impress! Why won't critics get it thru their heads??... Love, Audrey

Poetry is appreciated, depending on the eye of the beholder. Not everyone will agree what is pleasing.....but to criticize?? Who has the right to make any poet feel inferior? I love that last line.... a terrific collaboration and great topic James and Carolyn...I hope people will gain some insight!! Love, Carrie

Critics are often proved to be desperately wrong. One critic on hearing Brahms 1st Symphony proclaimed it something like "Mindless cacophony." Another idiot thought the final movement of Beethoven's Archduke Trio was inferior. Down with critics! Love to you two, daver
