The Sandman

I am a grain of sand,
Miniscule, microscopic and morbidly misshapen; a mangled mess.
I have no facets or gleaming faces.
I am a cornucopia of congealed silica
And countless foul impurities.
I am both completely unique
And utterly unremarkable,
Indistinguishable from my innumerable peers.

Yet one day, the sea will single me out
And sweep me away.

I have absolutely nothing to say that could possibly make this poem one iota better. Jesus CHRIST, Burns. Beautiful.

I can't tell you what it is about this work that makes me so attracted to it. Perhaps it's the idea that we are all rare in our own way. this one goes in my favourites..well done...Margaret
