I ain’t as Tough as I Thought I Was
As a young man, I used to think I was fairly tough,
I really wasn’t mean, I just liked playing rough.
I thought being able to take pain was the measure of a man,
When everyone else said they couldn’t, I always replied I can.
I couldn’t think of anything that really put fear in me,
But in the back of my mind I knew there was something out there that was going to show me
up, you see.
Well years passed and I hadn’t changed much,
Then one day something happened, I felt the Savior’s touch.
Before that day I thought it was sissified for a man to show emotions or so much as shed a
tear,
But after that day life started changing and things were much more clear.
I used to make a joke that if I went into a church the ceiling might fall,
Well the joke was on me all along I was just plain scared to answer that call.
I guess I always believed in the Bible and what it said, I just thought I was too far gone,
And I think that was why I was from the church so distant and withdrawn.
But the glorious part of this story is I was the type Jesus was seeking all along,
And according to the Bible we all fall short, we’ve all done our share of wrong.
