Word Sage

When all of youth flees and even the whitest eye reddens, rheums, words, fair words, dispel the gloom. When hands are mapped with age and knurled, still, they transform the page, the eye, the cage, for where words flow, the mind goes, to the pristine smiles and the smooth curves which once were yours, your cheek, your neck, your hip. Deny me anything but the word for it’s magic will soon be all that remains of fleeting youth.

Congratulations on your first place win Debbie. I so agree with the sentiments in your poem. I believe that we should wear our age proudly and treat our elders with the respect they deserve. Fortunately for me, my children feel this way too. I loved your poem and indeed L'nass is a Master Sage.

This is dedicated to a martial arts Master? I love it, Debbie. Unlike many of the other cultures, the Orient still bears great respect for the aged and their accumulation of wisdom through experience. I loved the days I would sit at my Master instructor's dojo listening to his wise tales of years past. His wrinkles were like gold and his small eyes sparkled when he chuckled. Glad your master is still living...once a martial artist, always a martial artist! Best to you! Gwendolen

Truly words live forever, at least as long the paper doesn't decompose but we have computers to immortalize us nowadays. I feel immortal already, how about you? :) Great tribute, the style has his sense of rhythm and overall beauty, plus Thy works well in any poem.
