The alarm bell sobs inside my head,
sending needles into my brain,
the fight is on to get out of bed
into the wall of rain.
Cheek to cheek on the downcast train,
my coffee is a small treat,
then the door pings - I'm back in the rain
amidst the shuffling worker feet.
Staring into my corner, I turn on a light
but my office is as cold as a cellar,
I start to wonder when I lost sight
when you stride in clutching an umbrella.
Looking around for something to say,
inevitably, you mention the weather.
All we have in common is this day,
which we must endure together.
