My Dentist

My dentist...
He is a great man.
With his hair so white,
And mind so sage.
He keeps dental records,
Of the smiles I have faked,
Which teeth of mine have ached,
Where my cavities lie,
And how many lies I have stuttered.
He pulls words out of my mouth,
Metaphors I have never dared to write,
Secrets I have never bared
By keeping my teeth clenched for too long,
Opinions I have murdered
By biting my tongue.
"I'll double the dose so you won't feel the pain!" he says,
With a professional smile on his face.
Ah! But Doctor, I always feel the pain.

I wish life was as simple as a minor toothache.
