Apple Trees

One two three, one two three,
Open your eyes for me,
Look at the apple tree
Under the sun.
Can you remember them?
Suzie and Adrian?
Philip and Miriam?
Even your son?
Grandchildren come to you,
Hoping you’d see them too,
But if they only knew
That you weren’t there.
Apple trees follow ‘cause
All you remember was
One special moment where
Nothing compares.
Mind is now fading and
Slowly degrading and
I cannot understand
That we grow old.
We all remember you
Dressed in your navy blue,
But if you only knew
Stories you told.

One two three, one two three,
Open your eyes for me,
Look at the apple tree,
Watch it with glee.

Soothing poetry. Beautifully poised. All the best.
