Upon Further Reflection

In the morning
as I shave,
I think,
"Who are you to me?",
to the image
merely mirror reflected;
the sole answer received's
quietly grave,
as the eyes
I peer through, see,
m'own puzzled sight
as something still suspected.

In afternoon,
while washing b'fore lunch,
I ask,
"Who are you to me?",
to the reflection
a few hours older;
only response, hungry face,
tight features all a-bunch,
narrow starved eyes,
their yearning, my plea
beseeching strength
of one yet bolder.

In the evening,
I simply stand and look,
demanding,
"Who are you to me?",
to the man who I am's
reflection;
Answer already known,
though, many hours it took,
"I am he
who's seen time flee,
waiting all day,
your recognition."
