The Knowing Corpse

Under the dank blanket of fate
Man and hope mate,
For a star of life unknown;
Folded in the brows of God
And seen in the sleep of our hearts.

For the child of a child;
The virgin within the bride,
Is a sail of lion's mane
And the foot of a sojourn's stick.
Farewell, the heavens await you
Like the dead await the nipple
Of the witch,
And dread stalks the ripple of the dusk.

Dear faithful
I hear the thunder of war
Beneath my soles,
And fear you will break me
Upon the crown of your sword.
I shall be death's slave
And stir his bones,
Till my father sees my eyes
And sighs to mourn
For the lamp preying with wolves.
