To One That I Love

Have I failed you my sweet child
I know the answer
My tears of truth do not lie

The pain you've suffered
It lives in me

A marriage broken
Left you a casualty

A mother's deepest wish
Is to make everything right

But nine years before
Woke new in me tonight

I can't make it better
So I cry in vain

There will always be days
When my tears come
 As a gentle rain

Yes Laurie, I do relate to this poem, as only a single mom who raised her children mostly alone can. All we can do is encourage our children to rise above, and to be gentle with our self on those days when the tears com ...as a gentle rain. I know them well. Beautifully rendered ...thank you and congratulations.

While it may be true that we don't ever want to hurt our children, sometimes we do but even more important is that we remain true to ourselves and know that some day our children will understand. This is a beautiful write here, Laurie and since they changed the format here I have no idea how if it current or not ... oh well, glad you're here at the Soup!!

I hope you won't continue to blame yourself, Laurie. You can offer emotional support if your child will accept it. Children can suffer more when they're in a home where their parents are unhappy. God bless you for sharing this heartfelt write. Love, Carolyn

Hey my friend..just found this heartfelt poem, and oh my goodness, you speak for parents all over this land...you my dear, put too much weight upon your own shoulders...this poem speaks so heavily of the responsibility you feel. But know that parents aren't meant to be perfect....we do the best we can with what we know and what we have. Take heart in the love you have for your boys. xoxox
