AWAY FROM YOU
Since the time of conception, I felt you in my womb,
In the breeze of the night air I looked towards the stars and moon.
Knowing I soon would become your protector, care giver, and mother,
I would share a bond of love for you; like no other.
When I saw your face, and heard your first ‘coo’,
I knew I would never want to be away from you.
Time seemed to go by like a shooting star, so fast, so soon,
The first walk, word, big kid moment, and eating on your own with a spoon.
I knew that time; I could not freeze to treasure the baby of you.
In the mist of the challenges and decisions you made, you passed the life test,
You took on the world with your head held high, saying I am the best.
The many friends, foes, acting in plays and school dances,
Nothing halted you from taking your own chances.
Yet the time has come for me to let you go to pursue your adult self and career,
I will truly miss you but I do not fear.
Because like an accordion which concedes and stretches,
Time for me withstands with your absence or your presence.
The connection we share in our hearts,
Began from the start and thus we are never far apart.
You are ME and I am YOU,
And, I will never be Away From You.
