Illusion

See, I never used to be such a fool
Sensible by nature, seemingly perfect
Putting my trust only where it belonged
Deserving, understanding, same old thing

Then for a short moment, you came
Into my life, you threw my world upside down
Like those who have fallen in love's trap will tell,
I have made myself believe that you are
The centre of my soul.

For days and weeks and sleepless nights
I wait for you to come to me
When you leave me behind
The things around me cease to exist
I live solely for your purpose, my dear.

When the poison begins to seep
There's no turning back
You knew everything and used me
Only to throw me on the ground
Like a lifeless object you've grown to take for granted

To me you still held a piece of my soul
The most vital part that keeps me breathing
Taking no notice of the dangerous haze
Covering my eyes, I slept
In the night to keep you alive in my world

I lost control of everything I had
You were my addiction, my one and true
Telling myself that no one can ever perceive
What I endured, my fading soul
Yet I still believed you loved me too

To the sound of piercing colours,
Your colour suddenly I see
Around my neck, my heart, my entire being
All the while expanding your rainstorm
Choking more who have come to believe in you

See, I never used to be such a fool
But a part of me was missing
And I led myself to believe,
I believed the illusion of your wonderful hues
Now it's left me with so much to lose

Wow, does this one hit home tonight, Analie. I'd like to copy it and send it to someone who was an "illusion of...wonderful hues." We want so much to be loved that we believe in it even when we should see the warning signals. You touched my heart. Thank you for sharing this. Love, Carolyn

Wow, this one is a write straight from the depths of the soul. Expressing the agony and confusion of a broken heart so well. Written with a gifted hand. Well done. Smiles from Lolita
