RITES OF PASSAGE

Remember the day
Apron strings loosed,untied
as maternal voices faltered and cried
Remember the day
When a soprano voice lost its elan
and a boy became a man
Remember the day
Peer pressure would not hide
and diffidence was replaced with pride
Remember the day
Desire,with warm whispers heard
questions,answered with just three words
Remember the day
Filled with joy and love
a union blessed from above
Remember the day
Holding a first-born,so wee
as two self-absorbed,became three
Remember the day
Trust was born-a-new
a changed life came into view
Remember the day
Genesis as a work of art
with gifts to share and impart
Remember the day

Memory always calls us back ... to what we cannot be again ... our poetry is the balm of our pain ... and this one is worthy to bring all peace

Oh, Brian, this is breathtakingly beautiful, haunting in it's oneness and solitary truth. I remember it well - how could one ever forget...always, it is written on my heart, and around, for always. this is in my faves - God bless, Kristin

thanks for your comments brian, and yes for those of us who are married we have to remember the day, my day was out of this world, very different in a good way, like in a dream. We must remember the day. I don't think we can forget the day good or bad. Well put together. Abe

What a perfectly wonderful poem, said with tender care, and gentle words. The sad line so touching "when soprano voice lost it's elan" heart breaking..yet the growth of boy to man, love, marriage, fatherhood, finding God in all your words, Brian. I love this. ~ best wishes~ Carrie
