When Sadness Breaks

When sadness breaks,
it drives deep into the core,
a sharp needle threading
around the seams, forcing
them to submit to its will.

An unwelcome intruder
causing nothing but pain,
it pierces, bites and darkens,
making its victim seemingly
helpless to its raw power.

Yet the beast is so overrated,
uninvited but not fearsome!
for it only makes you whole,
toughened around the seams,
one and joined with your soul.

In the end it bows going away
defeated, unable to hold sway
like dark clouds on gloomy day
surrendering to the brightness
of sunshine peeking through.

               ******

Wonderful poem that is so true! You can't have one without the other, and while I, like anyone else, have experienced a good share of sadness, I feel as though it's strengthened me in the long run. I always try to keep that in mind when times are hard. I love the fourth stanza especially. ~Juliane
