Anywhere but here

My reflection has changed since my earlier years
but only slightly can you tell
Eyes give away the secrets of the soul
it's my voice I will have to sell
and it leaves me thinking, anywhere but here

Trinkets and gadgets hung around the store
the place filled with dust
Most people just walked on by
allowing my forgotten shop to fall apart and rust
and I am thinking, anywhere but here

I sit for days, and patiently wait
for a customer to stumble inside
the longer I wait, the more weary I grow
and still no one, not even a hi
now I am wishing, anywhere but here

The menacing shops that surround me
are like poison in my veins
my shop fought hard, but still no luck
they had corporations at the reins
now I yearn, anywhere but here

On a quiet day not long ago
a man entered my store
He told me his name, and why he had came
Now I wanted to hear more
I don't want to be anywhere but here

An opportunist by nature
and a salesman at heart
I made a deal with the nice fellow
and got enough for a new start
now I can go anywhere but here

As I look at my shop
I think of all the times we shared
the memories i will never forget
that makes me scared
can I go anywhere but here?

Now I am on the beach
sipping from my drink
I am now head of a corporate chain
and i can't help but think
I can't imagine, anywhere but here
