Tailored words

In the dark light of this winter morn, I see
The clothes that I am expected to wear
(Though, maybe, the fault of illusion lies with me)
From overuse, have become threadbare

        Nothing there…

In a cloak of blue, I steal through these lanes
Measuring myself, roughly, for something new
A suit of humour, to cover my pain
A coat of hope, to stop the doubt shining through

        Do not fit true…

This protective subterfuge cannot last long
So, with the aura of my old hide, around me spread
(Without my own skin I feel so wrong)
In this cloth that is woven from transparent thread

Words, unaltered, from my head…must soon be said…

Hello Nigel Wow! Still waters run deep with knowing. I was captivated from start to finish. Love the last line.I once honored the thought that awareness was a natural state of being but I've been proven wrong time and time again. It's a heck of a lot of work.I guess it's in the balance right. This makes one think which is always good! Take care Love Light Truth Patricia

This is one of your best, Nigel. So many of us can find our own souls through your words... our outer selves wearing that protective suit, that isn't our true selves.. This one runs deeply within. ~ love, Carrie

Okay Nigel I want to say something other than another great write, but I would be lying, so my friend you have done it again. I hope the voice in the poem won't find it hard to release those words. This filled with a heaviness that the voice in the piece has to unload. I can feel the enormous weight that the voice is carrying around. I would love to know the aftermath. Great job!..did you change your name to Jack and did Christie become Ting?
