Just Words?

Words have a way of wounding,
piercing deep into the soul,
harsher than physical pain
within their imprints leaving.

Like cancer cells invasive
they strain relationships,
treacherously ending them
that no remorse can repair.

Often leaving ugly scars
that time itself cannot heal,
there is no taking them back
once cast, finding their mark.

Be careful of what you say
before opening your mouth
for even remarks not meant
could actually hurt the most.

So true, the tongue can be our worst weapon and we should really think before we open our mouth and speak. Words can leave some ugly scars and once said cannot be taken back. Excellent write. God Bless Phyl

The last stanza is very, very true...it's funny because what you don't say could have a bigger impact than what it is said.

The damage of a few, unkind words, can be a lifetime of painful memory. Never can be erased, once they are out there, those words cannot be taken back! This poem hits home for many of us, and is one of the truer statements I've read on Poetry Soup. ~ Carrie

Whoa. This is so true. I especially love your last verse which is extremely powerful. I have been the victim of cruel words and let me tell you they are not forgotten and have indeed turned to ugly scars. Awesome write Wilfredo. Love, Shar

Oh this is so real and I believe everything you said. Words are what matter the most. I don't think I've ever even tried to forget any complements or comments. Just a few days before I was down due to some nonsense and unnecessary words. Great visual for my brain. Hope only good words come out for you. Take care, Chitra
