The Desert

Silent sagebrush glare at the sun's burning eye,
while piles of hued sand gather at the ancient mountain's feet.
A river of pavement melts into the twisting landscape,
covering nature's floor with a man made sheet.

The wailing wind glides between woven branches
of stern trees standing guard over fragile soil.
Monuments of eroded rocks salute the changing sky,
their forms surrendering to the weather's endless toil.

Moisture's touch evaporates in the desert's blistering heat,
frying any wandering human's unprotected face.
Nature paints this dry beauty with flaming brushes,
wrapping a parched land in a sunset's crimson lace.
