Summertime
I want the summer sun to warm you
Your chapped cheeks smoothed to a golden tan
Flowers to bloom smells for you,
a kaleidoscope of red, blue purple and yellow
to pick and give with your little hand.
The grass to grow thick and soft under your toes-
(to guard from past spring’s mud).
Stems green as emeralds for your eyes to feast.
Seeds to pinch and bury
As I dig up a worm for you to ponder
And squish so delicately.
A shady tree to call for you, lower it’s sturdy limb to climb. It’s arms to shelter you
from the heat. A slight breeze to catch you for an instant, cooled ever so lightly-
caressed.
A dragonfly to catch your eye- land still but for the hello wave of its wings.
Free of time and space and life’s uncertainties-
As I look on amazed,
inspired by you.
