RESCUED

I walked along the dirty street.
Many a mile beneath my feet.

The smell of candy filled the night.
A carnival of sheer delight.

I tasted once and tasted twice.
Despite that angry groups advice.

Meetings, greetings call a friend.
My mind was closed; I did not bend.

Still I ventured down that road.
With blinders on but still it showed.

I held on tight to my own will.
I lacked the faith and suffered still.

An introvert I soon became.
A reclusive darkness hid my shame.

I longed to feel the sun so bright.
I finally hit my knees one night.

Pride and fear departed then.
A burden lifted from within.

Today I live by faith and prayer.
A newfound truth I'll gladly share.
