Saving Daylight
Taking in all there was to get,
we met,
lit by fading light of glorious Sunset;
both feeling the encroaching freeze
borne on the Northern Breeze
that shuddered the fragile trees;
as the sky became a bruised sore,
hurrying our pace all the more
to make for her door,
and embrace within her shelter,
while, outside, leaves began to flutter,
warmth to falter,
though, nowhere near enough to chill
the heat within us still,
our brightness, yet to fulfill;
she blinded Night's promised cold sins
behind the sheer fabric skins
of her, then, closed curtains;
hearts beating in a wordless rhyme,
we ignored the turning back of Time,
Twelve's dreadful chime;
safely braced 'gainst jealous Midnight,
and it's dark, frozen spite,
we caressed, saving Daylight.
