About This Poem

The Nocturnal Driver

The road looks very different driving in the dark,
Here and there a signpost to keep you on the mark.
A strange type of enchantment, as the moon her shadow cast,
A portrait from a gothic film, taken from the past.
Occasionally someone joins in to help you on your way,
But be quick or you will miss them, for you know that they can’t stay.
Inside you have the comfort of the warmth against the chill,
As your hand turns up the heater switch, while the other holds the wheel.
Some music has been playing to help you on your way,
As you reach your destination it’s almost the break of day.
