Help me find Mr. Vocabulary, please.

Blog Posted:6/10/2013 9:32:00 PM
I have an idea for a new contest, and it is inspired by the poetry of a poet here on PoetrySoup. I read a number of his poems last year and was totally blown away by his esoteric vocabulary, used in pretty much all of his poems. I don't know if he has such an active vocabulary or if he has a system which generates rare words.

Anyway, I haven't seen his work in any contests nor do I know how to find it except by asking.

Do you know who I mean? Please tell me if you do or give me some leads if you're not sure.

Cheers,
Roy

Try harry Horsman he fits the bill with his dark free verse and he uses words I have to look up, and his poems are sometimes very abstract but brilliant xx

Sidney is great, but I think not. I did a search on 'vocabulary' remembering a comment. What impressed me were not just the esoteric words, but how they were juxtaposed. Here are two possible candidates: John Rhinem jun-jun villanueva Terry O'Leary is great, too.

How About Matthew Anish, Or Joe Maverick, both men hypnotize me with their poetry... LOL, Both Are Gentlemen and use EPIC vocabulary. I can not think of any other outstanding poets, but maybe Tim R... who knows... Or is it RUBEN... lol, who is now being silly under POET D...

There was an incredible young poet... can't recall his first name, but I think his last was MaGee... he was very into Joyce. He was only here a short time, but his work impressed me, still tingles my brain...hmmm... let me see...

I don't think it's anyone I've seen listed so far, but some great wordsmiths anyway. The poems I read were free verse and were mostly dark in tone and somewhat abstract. One reminded me of that movie "Brazil" by Terry Gilliam. His poetry is very dense with these unusual words.

I think perhaps you are referring to Drake Eszes??? He has won a few contests so perhaps he isn't the one.

Well, hmmm, Chris Aechtner can, at times, select words that leave me almost envious... but he is also very clear with his writing (a wondrous mix, that) Do you know Chris? Let me see if I can copy and paste one of his masterpieces for you... oh, silly me, I should have asked, what FORMS does this poet prefer? Is he a free-verser or rhymer? This will help with the detective work!

Hi Maverick! Sometimes, because you DO have a fantastic vocabulary, something just slips in... but yes, what I love about your work is that it never written to intentionally travel OVER people... friendly on the eyes... but every now and then you send me to a dictionary. A good thing :D
