My parents said their vows
on Veterans Day
Soldiers enlisting for marriage
A kinder war in a way
Temperature dip
urban leaves turned
Autumn, sniffing around
for a place to settle
no Farmer's Market
in San Francisco today.
I got no legs
Ain't I pitiful
Wheel me around all day.
Boil me an egg
Pancakes, a griddle full
Then watch me worm away.
To Thank Them For Their Service
Tiny flags flap as
sundial crosses
map eternity’s
passing

Today some orphans get soppy
And shed a tear on a poppy
Though they never met
Their dad was a vet
And there was no carbon copy
“We
don’t know
them all, but
we owe them all”
is a reference
to veterans.
I’m grateful
to each
one.
The flag flew above
That covered the angles below
Then the strips whithered
And the stars dimmed
Leaving empty coffins below
Shattered Limb
broken tree limbs
lie shattered on the ground
no longer useful
the one-armed veteran
looks on with understanding
Came across this old vet
From yesterdays gone.
His voice full of tears.
He sang for his flag,
And played for the boys
He once knew.
In Llanbadarn-y-garreg, mid-Wales
There lives a preponderance of males
But Saint Padarn's church
Would never besmirch
Recitation of old fairy tails
Army cooks don't do anything wrong
By feeding a "Mad Killer" throng
& that's rather droll
Like a troll on the dole
Who freaks out on a Viet Cong dong
some victims of war
fill veterans' hospitals
lifetime suffering
seeking basic services
thank them for their services

purple heart on wall
coffin's flag furls in fall wind –
day to remember

The lady is my number-one homie.
Our hearts beat as one all metronomey.
Falling in love was not a decision;
Our souls were destined for this collision.
My father, a WW2 vet
My mother too
On Veterans Day they first met
They got married on Vets Day too
~ I hope some day to fill their shoes
bluish-green needles
raindrops cling like ornaments
pre-Christmas season
red-white-blue Veteran’s Day line
and poet-pearls on cedar

When on Remembrance Day
There is no one at the parade
The war is lost
Dead heroes’ died in vain
This shall be a countries shame
Note: Written for Remembrance Day Nov 11
Front-line in depth of mortar
Whistling shells and screams of torture
Blood clot gurgles death bell tolls
Hell of pain in body enthrals
Danger rings apprehension stalls
I sat in the dirt next to a healthy stream.
The water gently rolled over the rocks and stones.
I sat and smiled back with my missing teeth,
and my broken bones.
They asked the old soldier to talk about his heroism…
explain that medal on his chest.
“It wasn’t that I was brave.” he said,
“just a little less frightened than the rest.”
Brass handles, polished,
Purple satin, heavenly,
Perfect wedding suit,
National flag neatly draped.
I salute thee, soldier mine!

Some came home…
but never came back
Some came back…
but never came home
Caught between
forever
And what forever
—had disowned
(Vietnam Veterans Memorial: March, 2020)
Patriots
Are the people
That never
Resort to
Injustice, in the name
Of their country.
They are independent thinkers
Supporting diplomacy, not Malevolence.
