What is retirement? Is it just a new stage in your busy life or is it the end of your life as you know it?

I am retiring this Spring and have mixed feelings. There is a feeling of excitement because I can now sleep in or enjoy my coffee in a more relaxed way. There is also a feeling of dread. What am I to do with my time?

I have worked for 47 years and I think it is hard to stop that frame of mind right away. It feels a bit like losing a loved one so hopefully time will ease the pain. I loved working or maybe I just got used to working so I thought I loved it. My present job keeps me motivated and is very social so I will miss that part of going to work daily.

What to do?

I chose to retire in the Spring so I would have the summer ahead of me. My favorite time of the year is Spring, full of hope and freshness. My husband passed away a few years ago so it is just me at home in our house now. I am very healthy and fit so will spend more time doing outside work. Time with my grandkids is always special and I enjoy my family.

No matter what I decide to do or not to do I have my mind made up that it is time. I would not want to be the person who stayed too long or started making mistakes. I will leave when I am able to do other things. This is a huge change but an exciting one and I plan to be darn good at it.
