Transient Time of Day

Forewarned by cadent rhythms of the day,
the crickets hum like bees around a hive
while shadows stretching longer, dive and blend
to splinter into shards below the bend

Each ray creates a rim embossed with gray
colliding where cloth staples red to gold
onto a shade that drapes across the hills
to blanket, before stardust sprinkles cold

Earth yawns with sleepy breath to see the sun,
declining through the depths of sheer chiffon
As dusk rolls in, these moments we can trust,
to know of its return another day

But now is time to let time drift away
Our world with weary voice must say goodbye
With great anticipation, heads will rest
tonight when all the tasks are said and done
