What I Gave

What I gave to him were love, patience and my full support. From the very start, those were the things I always felt that a wife should give her man, believing a good wife could expect the same from her spouse as what she had given him. I have learned neither life nor marriage is fair. His angry words have filled me with despair. Little things that mean so much to me are not on his radar. He voices his love, but more often, I would much rather see it with my eyes. Written July 3, 2014

I think the hourglass shape adds to the impact of the poem. sort of the sands of time and love running through hard times. Nice write in an unexpected form.

A rather sad write Andrea. i'm very much a giver and appreciate everything a woman has done for me. to me. women are very special i have so much respect, and i'm a good listener. The trouble is, it takes two as you know. i have so much love to give but no one to give it to. Wish yu the best as always best wishes. Pete.

Love this poem and yes you are right, A hubby is suppose to be a women's back up, he tells you that he loves you at least once a day. I got lucky the second time around with Tom. We have rules, and we've been together for 25 years now. One we never go to bed anger, thats a toughy, by the way.lol We have more but back to your poem, It's hard when a relationship only goes one way, it takes to two tango, love how you've expressed this factor in your poem, dear you nailed it. cheri

Very expressive and honest; fortunately not all men are the same. A male friend of mine once told me that his house-wife finds time to do all her own things...which he does not mind...but he wishes she were to find time to at least once cook a homemade meal! // love your write and the form...interesting comment by Monterey! // paul

It is all part of sharing a life with another who has different likes and maybe goals too. Opposites do attract! A truly unique etheree!

This is sincere and emotional. I love how you reversed the second etheree and put them together like an hourglass with the sands of the marriage slipping through time.

It always amazes me when one reads poems of others, and what may have ignited the spark to write. Life, imagination, etc, it's sheer bliss to be honest and ones extremely privileged to be allowed through such doors. Fine poem Andrea, words that so many people have lived, James....
