The Quiet Storm

The Quiet Storm

Tears overflow, putting out a heart’s flaming embers
Drowns the beautiful memories one remembers
Destroying the identity of an aged soul
The quiet storm fueled by a disease grown old

Life’s familiar window is no longer clear to be seen
Veiled instead by falling debris
Within a storm that came on silently, carrying away
A vessel from which a soul lived in its day

Photographs from moments of years ago
Are gazed into the eyes of someone who no longer knows
A familiar smile, a face that lit up their life
A lover’s bond between a husband and wife

Before long, a sunshine gives way to grey clouds that swarm
Under its sky, remains the quiet storm
The winds that appeared to sweep away all remnants of a disease
Will only come back another day to claim another victim’s memories

A dedication to the ones suffering from Alzheimer’s
