A Summer Day

The last hints of starlight dim
As night time morphs to morning.
The crickets and the birdsong hymns
Join chorus in the dawning.

In eastern sky where azure grows
And frames the summer sun,
Young eagle glides, then swooping low
- Her first prey to be won.

Midday splays through forest's crown
Like spotlights on a stage,
To highlight the last hints of down
Where young chicks fly and fox kits play.

And there, down by the grist mill pond
The rope swings busy all day long.

I find myself liking this poem. Your verses are stunning! The progression also appeals to me, how it goes through a day, focusing on many different aspects of nature, and then the people that see it. Lots of neat pictures here! ~ Thank you for your fave on my poem; I am honoured that you esteem it worthy.

Sounds like Summer, I can hardly wait. Today looks and feels like summer but I think the water will be too cold for that rope swing. A little concearned about Shrinkage. As George on Sienfeld once asked "do women know about Shrinkage?"

ha ha, which it was like this down here... i like the last line the most,,, it is totally the opposite of a line i read in a hot summer poem... the swings were standing still..... Always ~ LINDA

Stunning imagery in this one! Summer mornings are my favourite - quiet perfection, and still cool enough to bask in the warm weather without getting fried by the sun! You captured this aspect of summer perfectly!
