About This Poem

Watching Death - Red Dog

For anyone else who has had to watch their puppy die of the horrible Parvo disease

I watched death come
Taking someone I need
The cruel pain begun
But I watched you bleed

I bathed you once and then again
But the stench of death remained like sin
You asked why with eyes of trust
But save you, selfishly I thought I must

No, not for you the sin was mine
Forgive me now, show me a sign
Those days and nights I put you through
You know I prayed and prayed for you

You touched my life in many ways
Though for such a short number of days
Through death - until the end
Your eyes were bright, you were my friend

I buried you under a big shade tree
With heavy stones to guard you for me
With your favorite toys and blanket of pink
Until I find you waiting beyond where death and life link

For Red Dog

This brought a tear to my eye. My best friend growing up was my dog, Nahja, a beautiful poodle who was so loyal. When he passed away, he was very hurt and was fighting like crazy to stay with us, the humane things was to put him to sleep. He did not want to go, they had to give him 3 doses of the meds to put him to sleep, he just kept fighting, looking at me, wanting to hop into my arms. I held him til his eyes finally closed. OMG....now I'm sitting here crying all over again and it's been 15 years...Oh goodness!

So sorry for your loss. Some people don't realize how devastating the loss of a pet can be.

Sadly, I've watched several pass over the years and can identify with your words. They brought us much pleasure during their stay. My heart goes out to you.....RAY

Thanks Ray..I learned a painful lesson. I will never take that fifty fifty chance again at the expense of something I care about. I thought my love could pull her through. Thanks for reading and your kind words
