A Thousand Words

A picture’s worth a thousand words,
At least that’s what they say;
But sometimes truth’s revealed
That really takes your breath away.

Perhaps you never realized
That you have an extra chin;
Or that some yellow teeth appear
When you decide to grin.

A bald spot that you cannot see
‘Cause it’s behind your head
Is captured in a photograph,
Exposing how it’s spread.

A zit you thought quite indistinct
Sticks out like a sore thumb;
And all that graying hair laid bare’s
Enough to make you numb.

I’d rather hear a thousand words
And wish I’d never seen
The pictures that I saw today
On my computer screen!

    And that is why I'm a photoless guy. Just joking, I'm really quite handsome for a balding, paunch belly, middle aged, oh my God! Are you kidding. :)

    Well done, so far I've enjoyed 2 out of 2. You have a very playful style. I look forward to more of your writing.

    This was a lot of fun and somehow sad as well. I guess that's why people don't like having their photos taken.

    Quite a feat... In about a hundred words, you've captured a rather grim picture of decay... Terry (Yes, a good poem)

    hahahaha, it's really sad to see this happen in real life. When someone you always knew as so handsome is revealed for how they let themselves go. (aging does not help either). I always enjoy your stuff.

    A funny but precisely true work written in your usual competent and amusing manner...I really enjoyed reading this today.

    Ilene; You are so right. A picture is worth a thousand words. I'm wondering - what did you see in your computer screen? Sometimes I look at pictures of myself, before and after and it's a real trip. Thanks for sharing. Lucilla
