About This Poem

Desert

silence snares mystery entices sunshine seduces emptiness embraces desert dry sweet breaths whisper crystal spring hope to gnarled, wounded souls thirsting for salvation. With outstretched expectations the muse rushes to intimacy, shouting stirring soliloquy and singing sonnet sublime. Momentary blossoms burst forth exclamations - eagle screams - chorused by coyotes speaking in tongues. Naked night skies blush galaxies brilliant exposing distant lies - affairs beyond the present tense. But passion softens, peace washes surrender and signals the bittersweet end of an empty reality. Purloined promises proffer riches, redemption, revival; disappointment shifts on endless dunes, scorn mars forsaken innocence. Walk-away shards of yesterday litter bones across time - memories who once believed the shimmering mirage of death, taunting.

What I've been waiting for! To hear your interpretation of living in the desert is like going to another world where the fantasy of life in that forgotten place captures heart and soul. Honestly John, this is so beautiful; I think it is now a part of you in the deepest sense. Lucky you to have experienced something I can only dream about! Luv, Elizabeth
