The janitor cleans

Quietly cleaning
Day and night

In his sight 

He never complains 
He just gets on

Modestly staying

Today while clearing the gutter in front of our store,
I swept up what had been a total bird
Along with cigarette butts and candy wrappers. 

The bird had battered its mobile definition
Against a still and solid wall of glass,
Seeing it uninterrupted air.

And I, who move through this commercial maze,
Amid these sudden barriers, can pray
To not be smashed by clear appearances....

and real; it had no romantic exaggerations

Child’s laughter echoes there
In the storm of autumn carried
On a breeze not yet  cold, but in the air....
