I

when the world had no headsets
the sunbathing crowd
fell asleep to the sounds of
transistors played loud
while the deckchairs and windbreaks
kites, beach balls and more
formed the stripes, lines and circles
that painted the shore
and the longer I walked
on the sand to that sea
the more the sea seemed
to get further from me
and the crunch in my mouth
was that one...

Premium Member Appear My Queen At the Pier
As the life of the day nears its last breath,
With a glow of crimson, forewarning its death,
Upon its cresting, the reflection, daunting,
The sea sets free a beauty, haunting
The depths of its treasures of unknown span,
The Queen Of Pearls, secluded from man.

This queen, a beauty of figure, a maiden so fair,
With glistening gold locks finer than...

Pevec in Czech -
a poet in our tongue,
and I see him there, composing.
His poem is about the sea,
and how the crabs are dancing
slowly to its rhythm -
side-going to the end of Southend Pier.

Pevec in Czech -
a poet in our tongue,
and I see him there, composing.
His poem is about his Love,
and how she is dancing

Premium Member That Evening On the Pier
We had our last hurrah
that evening on the pier.
Some friends of mine brought beer
while some brought wine.

The vista was divine.
The sun began to sink
as shades of rosy pink
streaked teal blue sky.

We joked while getting high.
Back then, we never knew
our friendships, like that view,
would fade away. . .

Ellen's Pier
Several years ago, I walked the Naples Pier with Ellen. There we reminisced and shared a cupcake, the view, and silent thoughts. Not long ago, a hurricane destroyed the pier. Below is my Poem titled Ellen's Pier.

Against that wicked stormy might
Came to pass the long-feared fight
First standing proud and quietly brave
Then bled white by...

It's a place I know,
my feet familiar
with each timber plank
that deck the way,
the smooth ones
and the ones buckled
and raised ready
to trip an old man's foot.
I know the name
of every boat moored
along its length,
the repertoire of sounds
played by the tides
and restless swells,
its intimate whispers.

It could be...

Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier

I remember watching
the ocean roll on the shore,
wave after wave,
crashing down on the solid sand
and I idly staring back
wondering if the Atlantic was as blue.

I watched him light a candle
and move in the swaying light
from a bygone age.

The flame flickered, so fragile,
it leans and sways in the cold breeze

My burning love...

The Old Pier (a picture poem)

beneath the boundary layer of air and sea
twirling vortexes of frenzied waters
incessantly corrode
the aging pillars below

the ravaged tired timbers emit
anguished unholy screeching sounds
as ocean swirls beat non stop in and about
worn out planks attached beneath
the weathered decking

the riddled concrete sideling emerges
perplexed and...

The air was warm, the sky all grey
We laughed and joked, found lots to say.
With lightning stones held in each hand
We walked barefooted on the sand.
The rain came down, yet with a grin
We hugged and kissed, drenched to the skin.

Premium Member Evening On the Pier
Sunsets from the pier
They paint a string of reds
As the horizon spreads
Soon a soft gray

To be alone in thought
Where the pier and sea meet
Away from the loud street
To await night

Finding peace and quiet
Free from a working day
On this pier I will stay
Consumed by stars

The Old Pelican of Sunny Isles
Old pelican
Perched atop
A railing at the end
Of Sunny Isles pier

His wings spread
His body teetering
In a salty breeze
As if in mid-flight

Stationary
But with all the motion
Of the universe
Rushing about him

Like a propeller
Whirling
And steering
In the currents of the sea

Yet absent a ship to thrust....

Southend Pier Me Ole Lady
Victoriana
Pier
Stands
Monumental.....

Of the glory days long gone
The train rumbles on as a confused old lady
Unsure of her destiny yet still she travels on

Young faces embrace with baited breath
Peering anticipation pressed on smeery glass
Wooing and cooing as objects roll by
Parents smile in adoration as their little ones ask 'why?'

And it's all so reflective, the...

The Pier By the Sea
The sound of the sea
so close to my door
a blue feeling in my fingers
my spirit is not so blue...

Our walks on the pier
where I am born eternal
the entire color aurora
awakens the sea and you...

Love swim so close to me
madness love me on this shipwreck
the oars and port is breaking
If only I had a boat...

Floating seagulls...

The End of the Pier
The end of the Pier was shrouded in mist
the Shadows we cast were defining,
We plighted our troth, and then we kissed,
Neath a full orbed moon that was shining,

We walked hand in hand to the end of the pier,
The ghosts of our past reawakened our fear,
We had to be strong, for ourselves and each...
