Short Stories on PoetrySoup?

Blog Posted:9/7/2016 5:28:00 PM

We've had a few poeple show interest in posting short stories on PoetrySoup. We are asking you, the PoetrySoup community, if you think this is a good freature to add to the website. So, what do you think Soupers, should we add a shorty story section to this poetry website? Would you use it if we did?

Short stories are 10,000 words or less.

I would like to post short stories and think it would be another opportunity to present writers another venue to present new work for review and critic.

I would welcome the short story section:) Maybe some prompts would encourage all to give it a try:) Great idea:)

Thanks for asking. I feel that people like to read shorter poetry. That being said there may be people who would enjoy reading longer pieces. It is worth a try in my opinion. Some may enjoy trying a hand at short stories.

I write one page story poems and encourage them thru contests for them and Fables already. I consider mine as a type of poetry as they usually rhyme... And call the type of poetry as light poetry... Narrative is a name catagory on PoetrySoup... People enjoy my story poems and fill my contests... Childrens stories are short and rhyme too... Go for it... There's room for everybody... A Rose by any other name is still a rose... You know what I mean... To encourage any type of writing is a great thing.

I thought we already had this with Narratives!! (sadly, most folks do not read our longer works as readily as they do our shorter ones). I do not have time for short stories unless they are super short. but maybe there is an audience out there for reading only short stories!

I sometimes write short stories. I would welcome it as a feature. Anything that keeps us writing is a plus. Thanks, SuZ

I like the idea as some of my poems end up being called short stories now, would be great to have a category to put them~

I think it would be a great addition to the soup. Even though it's not "poetry" it reveals expressions about the poet/author like poetry does. We hold contests about short stories sometimes so why not make it a permanent option? It wouldn't hurt to try it and see how everyone likes it. If some people are not interested they don't have to be apart of it, but it would be there for those who would enjoy it...thanks for allowing us to gather input TPS :)-luloo
