A question of balance? - Nigel Fawcett's Blog

Balance is something I think about a lot, and not just because of my birth sign, though, for sure, I do strive to achieve balance in my life.<br><br>I believe that the natural, chaotic order of the universe is also constantly adjusting itself to maintain balance.<br><br>The issue with using the Libran scales as an analogy is that it implies a concept of weight to the things that are trying to find equilibrium. This would suggest that one or two ‘heavy’ things could compensate for many ‘light’ things, which I don’t think is how the real world works. I feel that magnitude and direction are far more important.<br><br>Looking purely at ‘good’ and ‘bad’, I suspect that the bulk of each, on either side of the fulcrum, is the sum of all those little acts of kindness and little acts of meanness that we are all proud or guilty of, and that it is the few extreme acts of selflessness that balance the few extreme acts of selfishness.<br><br>Even though it upsets my balance theory, I believe equally, that we don’t need opposites. We don’t need to compare good to evil to recognise it as good. I think, when we look at a tree, or the ocean, or anything else that is beautiful; we recognise its beauty without reference to anything else. I think, when our hearts are touched by acts of bravery and compassion, we feel the goodness without reference to anything else.<br><br>Okay, I am going to stop at this point for fear of being dragged into the “beauty in the eye of the beholder” and “cast not your pearls” arguments, but I leave with my challenging thought…<br><br>Do we need the dark into which to bring the light, or do we need the light to keep the darkness away?<br>

Well, I think we feel that way because looking at these natural phenomena brings our chaos into balance, brings us serenity. Balance equals harmony, harmony equals beauty. Bad and good are man's terms and not terms a higher power. "For everyactions there is anequal and opposite reaction." This is a universally accepted concept of physics, not even theology. Here, in this now/where/when there must be negative/dark; positive/light; and neutral. the power of 3, the trinity, for it all to work here. I do believe in balance in all regards, there must always be balance, and the earth will always work it out accordingly. this is a topic I could go on and on infinitly about, so I will stop here! lol excellent topic for discussion!
