So, American Idol set a WORLD RECORD in votes (a record-setting 132 million votes)! Who says that show is losing steam? It’s getting BIGGER!!! Phillip Phillips is the 11th American Idol. While he was expected to win, because of his overwhelming following (esp. among women), We are somewhat disappointed that one of the better voices: Joshua or Jessica, didn’t win. But that’s what happens with popularity contests. Anyway, this was a GREAT year….maybe the best Top 5 group of voices ever on AI.

Anyway, poetry and music ARE siblings.

I liked Phil but he was no Josh. I heard it is better to finish second as you are tied to a two year Idol contract if you win it. A few years ago Adam Lambert was by far the best with Allison a close second but Chris Allen won it. This was a great group this year. Josh was amazing. He'll do okay in the future.

I just spent my Monday talking to children at a school about how poetry and music are so much alike. The kids are all promising poets and many will join here. It was an amazing day!!!!! Michael

I don't drink beer/buy luxury cars/consume various medications to make me:testosteronic...vegetative @ nite or energized by day....or need anything (but support from my higher power) quicker, so I don't spend time consuming above to hear the show....(I admit I did flip from "Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations" once & listened for 15 sec. to Phillip & kept waiting to be impressed....wasn't, no magic..) but I do agree w/yer premise TPS....(whew, took me awhile, sorry) jimbo

some musical lyrics are now considered poetry, especially those of simon of simon and garfunkel... statrted watching the last 4 episodes and i was rooting for jessica sanchez or j. ledet... i'm sure they'll be tops in the future!..:)

Just heard Van Morrison's Into the Mystic. Wow, what a great song and another artist who would never have a chance on a show like Idol...don't get me started!

Yes, agreed...poetry and music are siblings...I love watching American Idol and this season was the best. What amazing talent. I would have been happy if any of the final three won. They were each special in their own way. Perhaps Philip doesn't have the strongest voice in the classic sense, but there's something about his voices character and he's a great musician. I have heard the argument that if Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Joe Cocker and even Stevie Nicks tried out for the show, they wouldn't have made it through the preliminary rounds. They are some of my favorite singers because of their passionate performances and uniqueness. Just one girls opinion...Love and Blessings, Rhonda

Joshua...yes...he really knocked it out of the park! But the ones who vote, no doubt, are sent overboard by sex appeal, and although I loved listening to Phillip, and enjoyed him immensely as well...he wasn't the most gifted of the finalists. I was glad to see he was humbled closing the show with tears, however.

I mostly followed the super latter part of American Idol because of Jessica (since she's half Filipino)-- I honestly thought Joshua would win and felt sad he got eliminated...but yup, I agree about poetry and music being siblings, yup twins would be about right :D

I don't watch the show, my loss I'm sure, but I agree that music and poetry are siblings !!

I think with most talent shows it becomes a popularity contest, mostly because the main targeted demographic is aimed at teenagers plus us girls do like someone to swoon over lol
