UNSUPPORTED CODE

Blog Posted:5/3/2012 12:15:00 PM

As most Soupers know, we have NEVER sanctioned the placing of HTML code in poems unless it is the Center tag (allows you to center poems). However in the past, our poetry submission page was not designed to remove it. We finally got around to correcting our code. So now, if you place HTML tags in your poems, that code is stripped out and replaced with an “UNSUPPORTED CODE” message. Please do NOT use HTML tags other than the Center tag. We now strip out all prohibited HTML tags. This is a much needed security measure. Without it, we are susceptible to hackers and malicious code. We are trying to keep YOUR computers and poems safe!!! Thanks Soupers!!!

Yes, David, I did remove the blogs as it seemed pointless to have three blogs up on the same topic. All is good. Cyndi

A tech savy person answering our questions here would be a BIG help! I really see no sense in having all those options in the About the Poem Spot when almost no one knows how to us that spot & if they did NO ONE GOES TO LOOK WHAT WE PUT THERE

Thanks Cyndi, got it to work but it did not work with just c for center had to type in the entire word but b for bold and i for italic worked

Butterfly put < b > what you want bolded and then < /b > at end of what you want bolded, no spaces. worked for me! Same but with an i for italics!

I got it to work but I had to put them in one at a time, like the center, submit, bold, submit, italic, submit, only way I could get it to work. Should I not be able to do it all at the same time?

Can you please give more detailed instructions on how to use these functions of bold and italicizing, I tried it and only get unsupported code.

We are still working on the refinements to the code, but we will continue to allow bolding, centering, and italicizing.

TPS-- Now that I like. Honesty :) I respect that, no BS'ing. It's been my experience that saying things directly can first cause some discomfort, but in the long term do the most good. Thanks for showing me your cards. Tipping my hat for that. Cyndi

TPS, you are now confusing me. Are the options of art being denied due to site concerns, as your firs stated, or your personal preferences? Your comment to Debbie seems to indicate that it is more the latter.

LOL... now HOW do we bold and italicize? What is the code for it? Anyone? anyone? Hugs, Cyndi

@Debbie, many people get carried away with all of those formatting options. We want poems to be readable and consistently formatted which is why we restrict those options.

Hear you, too, Debbie. I just figured I'd kicked up enough stink... I am beginning to be seen wearing a black hat on Soup, me thinks, when all I really wear is a floppy, old sunhat with rainbow ribbons. Also, the about the poem link is only for PAYING members. I always felt like I was... slighting?...the free members by putting anything in there. I still feel guilty when I do that, like I'm Marie Antoinette saying "Sorry folks. Only some of us get to eat cake. Have a cracker." Oh, oh, I feel that black hat dropping on my head again... hugs,

Thanks again, TPS. It really is sad that we need to worry so much about attacks, but yes, it is a reality. Shame, though, don't you agree that some people purposely destroy a thing (a poetry website) that is in existence only to foster creativity and self-expression. Sad world. Awesome we can do bold and italics! A poem is brewing!

So many other poetry sites allow art with the poetry I don't understand why your tech people can not make it safe for us to do it too. Also..what is the point of having all those options in the ABOUT the poem space when we really WANT all those options IN THE POST A POEM SPACE

Does this mean that I can no longer post a picture where we were suppose to be able to post them before?..I don't understand the HMLT Code exactly what it means for I have not had any computer training..Sara

@Cyndi - It doesn't apply to blogs. We use a secure 3rd party app for entering blogs and we do not have to keep that text "clean" like we do with poems.

Thanks, TPS. I appreciate the prompt response. I now understand the concern is malicious code. Why is there no concern about this in the blogs? Are PS blogs a potential risk to our computers? Could you clarify the difference between the poem area and the blog area and the about this poem link in laymen terms? And if you could add the bold and italicized text, that WOULD be smashing. I have often thought I'd like to do a poem in a question and response type of format... and this would be a great tool. Again, thanks for your response in this matter. Cyndi

@Chris, we'll see what we can do about the bold and italicized text. Don't change your poems yet.

@Carolyn, this does not apply to blogs. It sounds like you will need to change the security setting on your browser. They are set too high.
