Death, My Friend

His broad shoulders tremble in fear
Fingernails are caked with dirt and yellow
Some sneer, some are in tear
Some cheer, some are mellow
He feels that death is near
The trench is like a death row

He has a tight grip on his gun
Remembers the time in the meadow downhill
He thought war would be fun
Now he wonders if he will kill
On the black soil where he will run
Where minutes from now he might be still

His feet are damp in his muddy socks,
Runs his fingers over his bristle
He sees a rat scampering across the rocks
Sees and hears an exploding missile
His scowling officer looks at the clock
The officer hesitates and blows the whistle

He hurries up the ladder and joins the war cry
Clumsy feet trip on scattered litter
He feels a bullet strike him. Another! His body leaks red dye
As he falls, all he sees is a blur
He takes his last breath and dies
The blue sky above is calm, unaware of the massacre

Alive Again

Beauty is a dangerous phoenix
Never teaching its vital lesson
Yet when you had enough of its tricks
It shows you a new, red, dawn

Beauty is very much alive and kicking
Waking you up from your sorrow
Beating at you with its wing
Only to be a shot by Cupid’s arrow

Beauty is a brass pendulum,
Coming and going, without much feeling
A monotonous rhythm soothing you numb
Until you take shelter beneath its red wing

Narrowing Faith Down

Faith is really hard to find, even in the best of the best of your so called best friends.
Finding faith is more difficult than trying to locate a needle in a gigantic pile of hay.
Faith is common in dogs; however, faith is the toughest to find in Homo sapiens.
I guess I made it clear that true loyalty is definitely not a luxurious buffet.
Bestowing and retaining trust gives us a wholesome purpose to live.
When you realize the power of faith, isn’t it greater than gold?
Trust is something only valiant people get, and in turn, give.
Devotion not only looks good on you, it’s healthy to hold.
No matter what anyone says, faith will always be hip.
Nope, it won’t die off, it won’t make you asinine.
Dedication flowers out of a valid relationship.
You’ll know when it makes you divine.
I hope you can see with your eyes,
I’m trying to narrow it down.
You see, I haven’t found it.
I’m using the philosophy
Of others who I admire
To hunt it down.
And I can
Tell you,
Anything
Is easier
To find
Than
Faith

Miles and Miles of Wilderness

Find shelter under a barren tree
Stay low and squint with distress
What do you see? What do you see?
Miles and miles of wilderness

Beauty is a mirage in the wilderness
That instant hope gone in a flash
When you realize and assess
That you've been imagining that splash

Yet in the middle of it all
That hectic crisis
You yell, you shout, you bawl
Bliss! Bliss!
