On the horizon our sleepy sun now slowly sinks Painting the skyline in swirls of lilacs, oranges and pinks The suns smile has faded and night draws in I snuggle in my jumper and warm my cooling skin Crepuscular birds sing their sweet nocturnal song I could listen to their chirruping all evening long In my garden some flowers have retired for the night They bow their sleepy heads and fold their petals tight An old owl sits silently in the gnarled oak tree Seeking out some rodents to eat for his tea Streetlights start to flicker and creepy shadows form Time to draw the curtains and rest until the break of dawn Contest Twilight Sponsor Nayda Ivette Negron 09~22~16

You used the pen that always awes me with the ease and simplicity in truly beautiful lines that flow like a gentle melody (do I sound like Emile? that just occurred to me, he gives 'great comment', but it is me being sincere.) It is like a high for me when a poem sparks my adrenaline, a rush and this did that. I'll hush now, but remain excited. Can you tell I like your poem? Oh, and congrats!!!! FAV CayCay

Your comment reminded me of Emile - I wish I could comment the way he and you and many others do!!!The poem came out of my imagination- apart from the sunset which I marvel at with the amazing colours and pattterns. I wondered if there was a term for animals that are active during twilight hours and found Crepuscular and it fitted perfectly with the theme and I too learned a new word:-) hugs Jan xx

Were you inspired by this in your own garden? I got that feeling. I have no idea what crepuscular means! (scular - skeleton / shape?) I wish the pesky FAV button were more handy. Night night, Isle of Man and Poet Named Jan.

I don't often put in 'new' words but this one was so descriptive and was just what I needed to make the poem a little different - i get put off if I have to google lots of new words when i'm reading:-) hugs jan xx
