I Love You Mom

I smile as I remember the holidays past The table full The smells are wonderful You are in total control Like a little general you command your kitchen And all who dare to enter I love you mom I smile now for another Thanksgiving The table full The smells are wonderful But the general fights to hold on to some control I love you mom The eyes question You make yourself busy You need to feel needed I love you mom You question many times what you are supposed to cook And I smile when I get there and you cooked the same as I You tire quickly but tough as they come you work diligently Until all is done I love you mom We’re a little too fast A little too loud Your conversations have fallen quiet But having all of us around you I can read in your face is what puts you at ease It gives much peace I love you mom Did you have a good Thanksgiving Others will ask It was spent with my mom So I was blessed I love you mom God make me the daughter That my mom now needs The daughter becomes the parent And now takes the lead I love you mom You ask the same question Over and over and frustrated You figure it out and get upset I touch your cheek And say the same thing I always say That always sounds brand new to you Mom you can forget everything else But just remember I’m your favorite The smile in your eyes, The smile on your face The laughter it brings It works every time I love you mom dedicated to Nell Young Wise with many, many tears

I remembered this poignant poem, that left it's impression in my heart..... I remember too, your telling me of her struggles, the memory loss, and how difficult it must have been for you to patiently stand by and watch with a heavy heart. But somehow, those "I Love you words" carry long past her time, and our own. Still love this one very much.

Beautiful tribute to family. My mother was usually drunk on Thanksgiving and every other day so I do not have this kind of experience with "Mom" but I can appreciate your wonderful writing here, Laurie and it is a well-deserved choice to be a feature this week at the Soup. Congratulations!

Caught this again in the featured poem section, and even though I read it before, it made my eyes tear all over again.Beautiful beautiful poem, Miss Laurie Gin..made me miss my mom, wearing her apron running around preparing Thanksgiving for all of us.I lost mine many years ago, much too young,...but same feelings in my heart as you. Wrote 'Butter Toffee',about my mother...WE DO share a lot in common.aren't we lucky to have had mothers like described in your poem?!! Congrats on being featured!:)

Oh my, Laurie, this made my eyes water, so that it was hard to finish reading it. So beautifully written,... yet, so hard to see the change that occurs, when once they cared for us, you said it all so brilliantly in this poem. Love, Carrie
