for the prompt " nebulous horizon " contest sponsored by Edward Ibeh

I gaze beyond the phasing face
of the nebulous horizon,
searching in clamorous silence
for a hypnotic glimpse
of your poetic sparks ~ lost,
placed within the kohl-dust
of dreariness dressed
in deceitful dancing diamonds,
like layered silver and gold,
seared by Zeus’s thunderous wrath,
leaving memories engraved
in satanic sapphires
across the tempestuous teal
soaked in surging tears
             unshed and unseen...

I’ve long been fighting
demons masked as the raven visage
of my bleeding silhouette,
preaching kindness whilst feeding
my soul with venomous verses ~
the poisoned truths of past turbulence.

But I refuse to drown in despair.
I will dance through the
dimmed spheres ~ eclipsed and torn ~
to reach the amorous arms
of compassion,
awaiting amidst splitting sorrow.

And when it rains,
my heart quivers,
haunted by inner thoughts;
my mind paints lines of love
in darkness and disarray,
for I fear never seeing
the saffron light on
the moon’s tender lips.

And in the midst of
p u s h i n g and p u l l i n g,
trapped in aching coldness,
afraid of losing the warm,
golden strands of roseate dusk,
I hide and fade like
love’s heat at twilight,
burying the poetic longing
within storms of melancholy,
waiting for another
cup of coffee at sunset ~
where your name ricochets
        like reveries of romance
and your voice reverberates
       like musical mists of monsoon,
carving an ambience
             of delicate desires
tying me to the ombre amber
s i n g i n g songs
             of solace, forevermore....

We love and miss you and your poetry as well as your generous support Inky. Angst will always exist in the world and to a degree, here. Looking forward to sharing a cup of coffee with you, metaphorically, upon your return. Thinking of you and your son and the recent loss...

Very honest and revealing work. There is a longing inside of all of us, which really cannot be filled by another mortal -- though we try, with seasonal success -- it is a longing to be one again with source. No earthly companionship nor wealth can ever replace this deep, abiding sense of spiritual distance. Wonderful read as usual. Never disappointed by your fine works. Blessings.

IE, you express a lot of longing and melancholy in this work. There is also some sense of hopefulness. I see you haven't posted for a while. Just want you to know people (like me) are thinking of you and hoping you are well. You have your own unique style that expresses things with a lot of humility. It's very engaging. Sending a smile. I also know that a smiling heart has 100 times the appeal of a smiling face. You make our hearts smile! Hope yours is there too!

What Edward has said about the poetry of you and Hiya is so very right. Both of your images and metaphors, your love for alliterative verse are so much alike. Congratulations dear Empress on your top win. Glad I could share the podium with you.

Inky, heartiest congratulations on your top win in my contest with this masterpiece. It's a fave for me. I have to admit, I sometimes confuse you with Hiya Sharma when judging my contest. You're both truly great poets. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

"preaching kindness whilst feeding my soul with venomous verses ~ the poisoned truths of past turbulence" -- not easy to be truly independent. "cup of coffee at sunset ~ where your name ricochets like reveries of romance and your voice reverberates" -- sometimes the closest we have to truth is only the moment -- the trick is to capture it. Many great poetic lines in this work. A joy to read and wonder.

Dearest I E, a magnificent poem! So beautifully written like the gems sapphire and diamond. Life can be really chaotic sometimes but in your poem you have that glorious light in the darkness that is so admirable. The way you've deciphered the uncertainty in the first stanza is very well written, artistically beautiful. The hope that is blooming in the third stanza is so beyond beautiful. My favourite line is this "cup of coffee at sunset". I'm so glad I read this poem. Sending you hugs, Anne

This poem of deep melancholy, longing and resilience is composed in beautiful alliterative verse. Even amid thunderous wrath, darkness and disarray, hope hasn't deserted you....."I refuse to drown in despair. I will dance through the dimmed spheres ~ eclipsed and torn ~ to reach the amorous arms of compassion, awaiting amidst splitting sorrow." This resilient spirit in you is highly commendable. "I hide and fade like love’s heat at twilight, burying the poetic longing within storms of melancholy", These lines cut like a rapier. As ever, excellent poetry, dear sweet Empress. All the Best.
