Where's Paul Revere When You Need Him?

Blog Posted:2/21/2009 12:03:00 PM

I’m used to stepping on toes with my big size 15 cowboy boots. The question has been asked why I put “When the Red, White and Blue Turned Red” on my blog instead of with my poems. The answer is simple. I wanted it read by as many people as possible. I thought it was important. I will include it with my poems shortly. As a noted man once said: “Extremism in the defense of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />America is no vice.” Frankly, I’m tired of those who rail about “big business.” It is true that many of them are corrupt, wasteful and greedy. But aren’t many of us? And when was the last time a poor person provided you with a job to feed your family? Too many have fallen for the class warfare tactic of pitting the poor against the rich. This is a classic Marxist/socialist method to sway people into their line of thinking. Today, clearly the line has been drawn. Would you rather bring down our capitalistic society and replace it with socialism? Would you rather work for businessmen (who we can and do regulate) or would you rather be under a repressive massive government that gives us a pot of money and tells us when, how and if to spend it? If you haven’t read “1984,” read it. If you have, reread it. We can control the abuses of big business, but who will stop our big brother government? I’d rather be dancing to dueling banjos than the siren song of the socialists.

Good to know you're still a-kickin' Glen! Just how many times has our trails crossed in the last few years? Haven't been coming here much in the passed few years but that is changing. Just been on a dry spell and I find myself steppin' out again. More later, amigo... Jim

I don't complain about big business, I complain about incompetent CEO's and golden parachutes and bailing out failures. It's not free enterprise when you can run a major corporation into the gorund and then have the working man bail you out while you still keep your job. If they fired everyone above plant manager level, the corporations would all be profitable. Sue is right, the powers that be will do whatever they please and we have been trained to just bow our heads and accept it. Where is Paul Revere when you need him? We do need another 1776. The corporate bastards would find a way to get a bonus out of that too. Heads they win, tails we lose. We do need big business, but we should be allowed the luxury of cleaning the incompetent garbage off the top. Vince

And everyone has a right to their point of view. Personally I think labels of any political philosophy are all empty and meaningless since the "powers that be" are going to do what they want to do regardless of what its called.

The problem for me with your thinking is we don't agree on who the hero or the villian is. We are of an age, I was born in 1948. "when was the last time a poor person provided you with a job" I provide myself with employement by educating myself through the use of student loans, which I did repay in full. Once in my life I needed food stamps, senior year of college, family life was too bad for me to go home (Dr.'s orders) and I couldn't work enough for the rent & school. I was told, your not barefoot and pregnant so no food stamps. Yup, good old government support. If the country/corporate America/the insurance & the pharmacutical industrys didn't underpay everyone except the "big wigs" we wouldn't have the POVERTY we still have in America. Minimum wage should pay for 3 squares, rent, healthcare & an "equal education under the law" It doesn't so you may have class wars. Remember LA? sigh Debbie

This smacks of McCarthyism AND paranoia. Why don't you watch the movie "Sicko" by Michael Moore? (Bet you're too close-minded.) :-P
