The Last Goodbye

Inviting vibrancy as the season changed
Smiley faces bloomed, reopening dreams.
Seeing you there marked a blessed event
Akin to magical when first time eyes met.

Breezing trees heard the whispers of leaves
Flirting with patterns of shadowy sketches,
There you unfolded what love could mean
Planting bold dreams in affectionate kisses
Floating on air in the lilting summer winds.

Blazing colors inspired falling ocher scenery
Dazzling in hues of resplendent paintings
As we wrote music in autumn's reverie:
A seductive beginning of romantic ending
Composed in themes of passionate lyrics.

Mountain tops donned snow-white crowns
Satiating fantasies in pristine landscapes,
Culminating desires into sensual escapes
As the last goodbye lent your heart to me
Ending your visit and our idyllic love story.

Your beat I hear still, but it lost its melody.

Be the Flame of Compassion

Be the star that brightens someone’s dark sky,
Be the light that illuminates a gloomy night,
Be the flame of compassion to life gone awry,
Even if you don’t think your candle is bright.

Despair not in a world gripped in jaws of woe
For beyond hills of grief dwells halo of hope,
Be the spring that rises through wintry throe,
Even when struggling in laments hard to cope.

Be the forest that grows through ashes of fire,
Be the dream that assuages angst of nightmare,
Be the angel of goodwill when times are dire,
Even when fate, callously, ignores your prayer.

Be not pain of misery, be not voice of dismay,
From goals of life revered, you must not stray,
Wish not for anyone, horizons shrouded gray,
Even while a storm drenches your sunny day.

Last Breath of Sunset

Royal blue sky scattered sapphire clouds
On horizon embroidered in navy blue attire
Summoned by the onset of marigold sun
Emitting amber gold on tuscan yellow fire
Where tapestry of fluffy lavender floats
Decorating patterns of designs periwinkle

Mosaic of colors then spray-paint the water
Spreading a layer of golden yellow cover
Shimmering gold dust on twilight ripples
Abutting brushstrokes of dark blue egyptian

I saw you briefly where first time we met
On the lonely bridge that extends into bay

But as the dark landmass peeked its head
And the lifeless vegetation glinted despair
The tangerine breeze announced your exit
Quivering our aura beneath glittering riffle

For you refused to witness impending flame--
Broken vows ablaze in last breath of sunset

Crepe-Myrtle Flowers

Eventide’s misty winds gently oscillate
Colorful clusters of crepe-myrtle flowers
Crowning atop rows of elegant tree-trunks
Blooms lavender, pink, red, and purple
Hanging in air from tips of twigs slender
Bowing to earth, donning green foliage
Arrayed in symmetrical flower-bouquets.

On a summer stroll, my hand you hold,
Gazing rhythms tilting back and forth
Swaying gracefully symphony of colors
As synchronized whispers merrily rustle
Echoing intentions of doting twilight sun
Beholden to season's gift of blossoms.

Gales now swirl, petite petals disperse,
Whirling confetti, drifting dances aerial,
Sprinkling fine motifs of tinted splendor
Twisting, turning, in eve’s amber passion
Flying all over, as we gaze, wooing love,

Where violet-sky above artfully evokes
Opaline glimpses of dreams ephemeral
Inscribed in spectrum on crimson horizon.

Someone Who Used To Be You

When splendor of love spun dreams ecstatic
Musings of fantasy waltzed joyous themes
On blossoms of meadows in prime of spring
And giggles of streams donning green prairies

I felt your presence my eager beats crooned
When halo of the moon ravished our mood
As melodic rhythms inflamed doting hearts
And voice of hot passion blazed our romance

You were sweet life that I cheerfully claimed
And I was to you what your triumph meant
But feelings euphoric soon lost their edge
When in winds of change vows of youth drifted

I saw you go there where lonesome souls cry
Where emotions despised strife of pale sighs
When day’s silence often filled awkward void
And haze of nights we spent gazing gray skies

When dawns soon arose enveloped in shroud
Love too got masked, cloaked in stygian clouds
And allure, once acclaimed, began to fade
As contempt of sameness dwindled our flames

As you leave this dream, dear, you know it too
No longer the birds choose to croon your tune
They are searching someone they loved and knew
The one they once wooed, who used to be you

Last Letter

Oh my dearest love, how longingly I recall
Amorous wink of joy, teasing zealous eyes
When you held my hand on journey of life
And never let go despite the arduous climb.

Happily you greeted what justly we toiled for,
In view of gratitude plentiful it always was.
Staying true to hallmark of your own resolve
You didn't falter when fate made bad calls.

Exuberantly you reveled in garden of roses
In purple orchids and fragrance of Jasmine
Beneath cosmic infinity wooing your fantasy,
As resolutely you held on to truth of reality.

We traveled far eying cultural renaissance
In Sistine Chapel and the Statue of David
As museums found you mesmerized by art
And paintings in Uffizi held you spellbound.

In your honor, I'll memorialize solemn oath
Lovingly etched in the temple of our hearts
Saying in your voice, there are no goodbyes
When love shall endure till the end of time.

Hope

Hope is a song of bird Reassuring forlorn dawn, The nightmare is banished And the dream is still alive Hope is a Lotus flower Drowning in the night Yet, rising through mud With ebullient sunrise Hope is an autumn leaf Gamboge on brown That curls up and dies, Only to bud again with Spring’s verdant vibes Hope is a glint of smile On the face of despair When helping hand arrives Trekking by its side Hope is a concert Of euphoric hatchlings Yearning first flight Flexing freedom wings It’s the elixir of living Priceless for everyone And everything for some~ Hope’s their only means Hope is a prayer Tolling of benevolence In places of worship Seeking in earnest Triumphs over tragedies Written: February 3, 2022 Submitted on November 2, 2022 to: 2022 Poetry Marathon Mile 19 Poetry Contest Sponsor: Mark Toney Placed 1st: A Strand 1074 contest Placed 1st: Hope Poetry Contest Sponsor: Mohan Chutani

Lift Somebody's Dawn

Learn from the eagle how to soar with winds
Spanning your wings to conquer tall peaks
Float hopes high reaching sapphire blue skies
Triumph with your smile as the world goes by

When beset in clutches of troublesome plight
Know that a new dawn always follows night
My child, when it’s your turn, do what’s right
Even a bright sunny day must cede to twilight

If you want things easy, they won't be worth it
Learn to swing ably if you wish to score a hit
When the climb gets hard you must never quit
Things that you regret, you may never repeat

Glint someone’s clouds, be the rainbow on arc
Be the emissary of light for the adrift in dark
Edify your doldrums, be always on your mark
Lift somebody’s dawn, be the sweet song of lark

Walk along humility when tempted by pride
Learn from those saintly, living lives dignified
Hold your balance or you’ll tumble and fall
Let the mountains teach you how to stand tall

When something goes wrong, do not justify
What’s spurious and superficial, do not glorify
How well you do, rests on how hard you try
When you hear the call of duty, never ask why

Let happy thoughts reign your state of mind
When emotions overwhelm, always choose kind
Spread the wealth of love to help mankind
Be the precious gemstone that is hard to find

Glint someone’s clouds, be the rainbow on arc
Be the emissary of light for the adrift in dark
Edify your doldrums, be always on your mark
Lift somebody’s dawn, be the sweet song of lark

Ode To Dewdrops

You hang there on the rise of dawn Bending twigs where you cling, Glistening gems on sunlit lawn, Where I greet you before you're gone, Before my passions forlorn ding While you gleam rays of spring. How long dear will you glint and glow Upon vibrant realm green, My heart and I would like to know For zephyrs of west will soon blow To dethrone you from where you preen; Oh! force of gale is mean. How ardent you paint golden morn Blushing on canvas gray; Glinting rays my sight you adorn, Assuaging grievous yore lovelorn As verdant limbs gentle winds sway Waltzing with lucent day. Time has risen to bid goodbye, Yet, you flinch, loath to part, As sun paints arc in gamboge dye When a fervent tear sparks your eye, Heartening warmth love-vibes impart Vowing to cure my heart.

Oh, Autumn

Oh, splendorous, spectacular, resplendent autumn!

Boldly you dye cypress ~ flaunting ochre, cinnamon,
Yellowing sugar-maple, glazing tangerine emotions,

As scarlet winds warble in accents of majestic aspens,
Responding in purple whispers, tupelo leaves flutter

Reminiscing in revelries evoked by red-oak crimson
Lingering in blazing meadows, enchanting red maple.

Oh, autumn! fly me there, into depths of the season,
Frolicking upon gamboge hills, wrap me in your vision,

Tour with me dazzling terrains of flamboyant foliage
Composing deep pleasure in brilliant changing colors,

Hang your portrait upon cobalt cliffs of ruby horizon
Painting blushing hearts in amber hints of setting sun,

Mindful still of wistful shudders quivering barren trees
And unsung withering yearnings of falling golden leaves,

Aspiring blossoming kisses--on lips of flowering spring.
