Drunk On My Tractor

I get up early, a rancher with chores
Hay grows in fields, animals shuffle, roars
Dawn breaks its steel grey grip on my land
And I, well, I have a clear bottle clutched in hand
The first swipe, the one that burns the most
Clears the head, lifts the fog, begins my dose
Work ahead, hours on the grind
A key in my hand, the tractor is mine
Muddy boots climb my ass to my seat
Prepared I am, for this summer heat
A seperate, full bottle in pocket, the engine is turned
Key to the right, another throat tickle burned
Through the gate on into field I find my day anew
View as of now, not quite so askew
The rows start straight, a farmers simple task
They soon grow crooked, I can't find my flask
Fuel runs low, a hassle to refill
Inebriated I find it easy to spill
Unwiser still, I light up a smoke
Finding my way, to field with a toke
Stoned and drunk I arrive at my field
I'll try it again, a little more even keeled
A drunken chuckle to nobody in sight
What a great poem, another forgotten to write
A vision of an old boss, his hatred of me
I laugh, again, to no person I see
He works all day at his nine to five
And I'm drunk on my tractor, happy alive

A Poet In Moonlight

Surrounded by starlight, lost in deep night
Under street light, poet in moonlight

Walking through mist thick fog
A way through the woods to home made of log
Quiet lake in the mountains far retreat
Sand thread through toes over feet

Knocked off around mid-day
Sun on my face right where I lay
Summer days shine or rain
take it with the hurt and the pain
sit tight and sway there's a boat in the bay
Day turns to night sit by fire-light
Surrounded by starlight lost in deep night
Under street light poet in moonlight

No palm trees here just pines
reaching high to the skies
no distinct lines yet so many lies
fire in the pit stories poured over wine

When the feeling is just right
on the docks fed by star-light
wait until the fish bite
visions of white knight
make all the rhymes fit tight
seeking the right fight
to make it an honest plight
until I'm surrounded by dark night
another hour just to write
simple soul without sight
a poet in moonlight

Autumn Rose

A star shines above songs of frogs
Summer has ended thrown to dogs
Fields brilliant shades orange brown gold
Lavender faded flowers fold

Barbed-wire fence post soaking dew
morning mist burned away by sunlight hue
crickets chirp among the row of fir
waiting for night to sing their verse

bend of creek where waters turn
small rapids which fail much churn
nostalgic ghosts of times untold
last of rose petals hold

soothing noon sun will to shine
hills bearing wheat and hay to bind
find me there nestled sweet
well rested still from head to feet

Mountain Cabin

Sun sets quick in fields now green
Soon bronze shafts to be set free
Cabin two hundred years old
Falling down ghost memories untold
Mountain top hide out
Once proud view stout
Miles away forests can be seen
Here one blessed scene
Crop of rock stand tall
Nature away could fall
My heart my soul
Stories untold
Home long ago
Few only know

Dreaming All Day

A fog comes over my thoughts
a dreary little wisp of different lots
heaven comes down with the rays of sun
and I sit alone till the dreaming is done

There I walk the banks of streams
where love is lost among the dreams
I return during day a far removed walk
of life which exceeds like a bloom in chalk

Green of the mint smashed scent as I tread
An angel there holds my hand gentle as a thread
Moon is high in the afternoon sky of clouds and sun
Blue is the sky reflecting my shining thoughts of fun

Bring your smile and a glow upon your face
I will remain by the side where I can place
Come away with me tonight
We will walk until the dark fades to light

Defeating the Darkness

There where the light does not touch
where few things grow and fewer still live
a glimmer of hope, a storm does brew
a river that sails itself to deep sea
life into death, death to unknown

Fields bathed in sunlight
golden harvest awaits
sing a song of bronze grain
blown by winds of fate
in the autumn of life

A ship sails from yonder
a distant shape growing near
a welcome voyage waits me there
where fruit trees stand tall
and bees sing through flowers

A Peaceful Fountain

Where is love in life
such sharp pains dull knife
no I have not lost my soul
life still demands a toll

Breeze of warmth blows east to west
follow the wind to be among the blessed
over mountains with miles of trees
beyond the valley where my heart bleeds

That field with grain of golden sheath
acres of land sown with softest wheat
harvest soon will be here
time when you are missed my dear

Spring still flows peaceful down the valley
into creek then to river to rally
cutting deep into the granite of the mountain
always cool our refreshing fountain

Winter Comfort

Coldness harbors no regret
Windows frosted, calm chill set
Branches iced, their sleep past due
Grey skies warn, storm so true
Red of cardinal, blue of jay
Tea and fire, warmth I pray
Water frozen in the river
Run strong, so deep a shiver
Green of pine, rich scent of which
A faded dream, a fevered pitch
Memory shall not be found
Yet in the mountains, where snows abound
I miss the spring, some sort of debt
Still, coldness harbors no regret

Time Among Friends

Red of cardinal bright among brown
twigs of maple leaves of the ground
Autumn winds brisk breathing
snow filled streets not leaving
fireside warmth for a chilled stroll
to snow covered knoll
stay by my side inside we'll abide
half sleep thoughts like tide
there's those lost to time moments so slow
then we look back to see quickly go
those shared conversations people we've met
talk about them until mind so set
to live once more there still content
shadows linger long until you have went

Hayfield

Sky color shades hue
red yellow orange blue
insects click birds sing
trees leaves cling
green summer pleasure
gold harvest treasure
weeping-willow hill
far removed autumn chill
morning mist rising
soul uprising
coffee brewing dark
porch waking dog bark
cornfield full fine haul
yard there cut wall
rest invites shade tree
here farm life free
