A Single Leaf

A single leaf lay on the ground
And as it fell made not a sound
A simple thing, so quiet it lay
Leaving behind its greener day
And one would think its job were done
As it rested gently under the sun
Yet as it hugged the chilly ground
Greater things were abound
For with its death the circle renews
A parting gift the Earth will use
And in giving itself to the ground of its birth
A single leaf proves its worth.

Untitled

The faint brush of fingertips
Upon silky-soft skin
The first tender kisses
Stirring excitement within
The meeting of bodies
In a trembling embrace
The softly blown breath
On a delicate place
The gliding of hands
Over bodies to learn
The quickening pace
As desire does burn
The special sweet moment
When pleasure is true
The beauty of a lover
When everythings new.

Dreams

When we are young we chase our dreams
With much determined heart
But somewhere along the path it seems
They tend to fall apart
So we gather the pieces tenderly
And place them within ourselves
Inside a childhood treasury
Upon our many shelves
And if we chance to be strong enough
To face these things forbidden
We find in all our collective stuff
This treasure we have hidden
And oh what a painful pleasurement
To remember our younger desires
And wonder with fear and excitement
If a dream ever really expires.

Lessons Learned

I once had a love
In an ill-spent youth
And a child born
In innocent faith

Though fear and fate
Chased love away
My heart stayed true
For a daughter's father

And life, as it will
Brought changes and years
Another daughter born
To another absent father

By chance and circumstance
And trials so many
A first love was refound
And a family formed

Yet in years ahead
Though happy were we
My soul mate was lost again
To his own weakness

A drink too many
And hearts were fractured
Til we were again three
Daughters to a mother alone

And yet a mother's heart
Needs only the child's love
To find such strength
As to keep her faith

And maybe to teach her children
A truth she has realized
There are lessons we learn
And lessons we live.

Broken Heart

What do you do with a heart that's been broken
Too many times to repair
For truly, there are no words to be spoken
To make it want to care
And how do you learn to trust again
When trust is merely a lie
Is there another way to begin
Or is it too much to try
Is it okay to merely be alone
And truly forsaken love
When the fairytale is really gone
And cold truth all you know of
Yet somewhere deep inside you hides
The wishful spark of romance
A torment that never subsides
And whispers there's always a chance
And the cruelest part of this spark
Is the hope it keeps alive
For what if love's not a lark
And something for to strive
What then if you should happen to find
That one you've been waiting for
And discover a truth truly unkind--
That you've already closed the door.

She Watched

She watched him take her away
This child she'd given birth to
She watched her nurse the first time
Feeling it through and through
She watched her take her first steps
With fear and joy alike
She watched her walk in the school
And learn to ride her first bike
She watched her talk on the phone
And fix her makeup just right
She watched her put on the dress
And go to her first prom night
She watched her walk across the stage
With pride and many tears
She watched her pack for college
And remembered the early years
She watched her put on the veil
And gave her something new
She watched him take her away
This man she was married to.

Waiting Quietly

I sit still and quiet
Watching every breath
My thoughts are flowing streams
Only glancing rays of light
I feel the lurking presence
A darkness from within
And hold myself carefully
To keep from being seen
For if I think to hard
Or make any type of sound
This darkness will encompass me
And to it I will be lost
But my will is a solid thing
And beauty's never lost to me
My laughter is a sharpened sword
And stubbornness my shield
I build my walls with every breath
And hold myself so quietly
Waiting for whichever comes
Be it fight or bloodless victory
So I sit still and quiet
Watching every breath
And wait for the darkness to recede
So I can find myself.

Binds

We cage ourselves with binds of love
Silken threads that won't let go
A self-made trap we cannot escape.
Sometimes the strands are a welcome thing
For they comfort us with their presence
As real to us as a loving embrace.
But at times we come to be aware
Of the cage we're trapped within
And frantically we try to escape
Throwing ourselves against the cage
In useless defiance of our fate.
Our silent screams echo within
And in our struggles the binds do cut
Creating wounds we cannot heal
Yet we continue to fling ourselves at them
As our blood drips in futile tears.
Til exhaustion comes to make us pause
And view the mess we've made
And it's in this silent contemplation
As real tears fall in silent despair
That we wonder how this came to be.
How slow the threads were woven
Unseen by us until too late.
There follows then a weighty guilt
For we do not wish to cause pain
Or push away those we love
Yet we cannot help to admit
If only to ourselves
At times the binds pull to tight
And make it hard to breathe.
We did not ask for this! we scream
So weary of the weight are we
Of love's heavy responsibility
Yet our hearts refuse to let go
And our pride's a wicked thing.
So we gather up the bloody strands
And clean them with our tears
For although we yearn to escape
And at times it seems too much
We know in some instinctive way
These binds are precious too.

I'M Sorry

I'm sorry if I seem crazy to you
And my mind's not working too well
But there are things I'm going through
And I'm in my own personal hell.

I'm sorry if you don't understand all this
And even sorrier if you do
But my thoughts are all a jumbled hiss
And so very hard to get through.

I'm sorry if I've failed you
In some important way
But these are things I have to get through
To turn my night into day.

I'm sorry if you just can't handle it
My brief dance with instability
But maybe if you could just wait a bit
I'll remember what it is to be me.

Sorry

there is but a breath between us
trembling with words unspoken
mistakes i've made in the past
haunt me until i am broken
to say i'm sorry for last year
seems like not enough
and if i gave you my tears
you'd see i wasn't so tough
but sorry is what i am
and tears are what i can give
along with all my love
for all the days that i live.
