A Single Leaf

A single leaf lay on the ground And as it fell made not a sound A simple thing, so quiet it lay Leaving behind its greener day And one would think its job were done As it rested gently under the sun Yet as it hugged the chilly ground Greater things were abound For with its death the circle renews A parting gift the Earth will use And in giving itself to the ground of its birth A single leaf proves its worth.
