Creatures of the Dark

The creatures come out in the dark.
One after the other,
They drag their fat bodies,
In front of the moonlight,
That shimmers with dull
Desire.
One after the other,
They display their darkness.
They wiggle and crawl,
And bend over backwards,
Clawing at the walls,
And scaling the ceiling.
Sometimes there are flashes of red,
And blue,
And black,
And a tint of a yellowish purple,
That sprinkles the walls,
Like a confetti of emotions.
One after the other,
They endow the room,
With their whimsical display.
Their folly,
The things of nightmares,
And dreams,
The things of joy,
And tears.
And as the sun rises,
One after the other,
The creatures retreat,
Back to the small crevice where they,
Belong.
And, you can almost see them smile.
Their reflection looks quite familiar.
Almost as if,
it were your own.

Goodbye Eagle

His breathing was labored.
And his body was asleep.
But his mind was awake,
And he was trapped in his body.

The car purred under my feet.
She asked me if I knew about eagles,
And I said yes.

She told me there was two things an Eagle could do,
When it was in pain,
Break off its beak and rip its wings,
And hope to live,
Or die.

My breath is blurring the window.
My heart aches.

She tells me we need to let him fly.

His life was in a constant free fall.
From the moment he was born,
He was doomed to be the man,
Raised without a father,
Who would make his children wish,
They didn't have a father as well.

He was never flying.
And we had to let him crash.

Gutted

I am a fish out of water,
Hanging with my mouth open wide.
Eyes hardly seeing,
Swishing to and fro,
Waiting to be gutted,
on this open boat.

Hush Darling, Just Drift

The silence cloaks my body.
Velvety hands that drag me down,
Their cold hands leave me so empty...
So empty.

And from a distance, I can hear my mother,
Her voice is a ghost,
And it whispers sweet nothingness,

I am everything.

I am oblivion.

I am lost in my mind,
And I am drifting around
In a sea of words,
And perhaps I can cling to one,
And it will drag me to shore.

I will taste the cotton candy air
And smell the fresh inky sea,
So salty and clean.
Maybe it could cleanse me as well.

And my mother is gone,
But her scent lingers,
In the silence I can hear her,
"Hush Darling,
Just Drift."

Anonymous

How one wishes to relish in the things of the past
Because it is their voice one hears the most
Like ghosts whispering soft things
Your ears perceive them
The unpercievable.

Words are ghosts
Of the people who wrote them
How many poems have I seen?
Written by anonymous
Are they lost, or forgotten
perhaps both

Both ways
Both worlds
singing the words from the grave
or in your bed

“Hello dear” They whisper
“How I missed you”
Wrapping around your head
muffling your thoughts
Are you a zombie or a human
Or both

How we wish for the oblivion that takes those that try to run
But we fear it and end up running ourselves
Are you afraid of the dark? Or the oblivion you seek?
And we run at the pace of zombies
backwards around the world
so we age faster than we can learn
so we shrivel before we heal
or both

How much human can you take before you are not human
Is the dark any better than the light if the light needs the dark to be light
My ghosts say otherwise but they are too human to see any wisdom

Softly
Ever so lightly
I crave the voices
Or so we are told not to hear them
But we still do
Them
The memories
The things that haunt us made of
the wisps of l o n g
u n i n t e n t i o n a l
h u r t

How is the oblivion good
when you can relish
in the ghost of memories?

Music

I want to breath this music.
Let it fill my lungs,
Until I drown in it.

Drowning

If you're surrounded by water,
Can anyone see you cry?
If your arms are flailing,
Will people think you are trying to fly?
If you begin to scream,
Will people simply sigh?
If you are surrounded by water,
When will people notice you die?

Silence

The moon hangs low
its soft glow
illuminating my bedroom walls.
The night air
is warm.
The darkness
lays thick on my head.
It's quiet now.

Water trickles from the corners of my eye.
I can't hear anything other than my heavy sobs.
Then
it's quiet again.

There's an ache in the middle of my chest.
A knot in the middle of my stomach.
Thoughts circulate my wrinkled forehead.
Around,
and around,
and around.
Again,
and again,
and again.

I don't want to bother the night air anymore.
I close my eyes.
Silence.
